Dog training and support, for when walks feel like hard work

Maybe your dog’s bolted off after another dog and given you a fright.

Maybe you’ve had them a few weeks and they’ve no idea what “come back” means yet.

Or perhaps walks have just become something to get through rather than something to enjoy.

My dog training services help with recall and loose lead walking, so you get the dog you signed up for, not the one currently dragging you down the street.

How I work with you and your dog

I don't run classes. Every session is one to one, with all my attention on your dog, not split across a room of them.

We start at home, even if the issue is somewhere else entirely, like the beach or the local park.

Training happens for the environment, not in it.

I sometimes compare it to a parachute jump, you don’t jump out of a plane and then start thinking about where the rip cord is.

We build the skills first, then take them to where you actually need them.

Most dogs need 4 sessions, usually spread over 6 to 8 weeks. It gives your dog time to practise properly between sessions, rather than trying to fix everything in one go and hoping it sticks.

My focus is everyday life with your dog, recall, loose lead walking and the things that make a walk enjoyable rather than stressful. Obedience work, heelwork, agility and sports training aren’t part of what I offer.

If what’s going on with your dog is more about anxiety, fear or reactivity than a training gap, I’ll say so, sometimes that only becomes clear once we’ve spoken.

If it turns out your dog needs behaviour support rather than training, I’ll point you towards the right programme instead.

Recall training

I teach a method called Total Recall, and it gets excellent, consistent results, particularly with more active or working breeds.

It’s easy to underestimate a dog like a doodle, they’re often bred from two working breeds, and being cute doesn’t mean they don’t have the same drive as a solid working lab.

Loose lead walking

This needs consistency between sessions. It’s not a quick fix, but with the right approach it pays off when you practice and apply what you learn in the sessions.

Locations

Sessions are available in person across Ayrshire, East Kilbride and Glasgow South Side, or online.

Just listen: Focus and attention course

If your dog doesn’t seem to listen, ignores you, or you’ve found yourself calling them “disobedient,” this course might change how you see the problem.

It’s rarely about obedience. More often, it’s about focus, and focus is something you can build.

Just Listen is a 4 week self-paced course drawn from a varied library of short, focus based activities, the kind of thing that would probably never occur to you to try, but genuinely works. I recorded all of the tasks myself, with my own dog.

Each day you get a short video, no more than 2 minutes, with one task to work through. Nothing to remember, nothing to prepare in advance.

There’s no class to attend and no set time to be online, you work through it at your own pace, whenever suits you.

There’s a WhatsApp group for everyone on the course if you’d like to share progress or ask a question, but there’s no pressure to post anything.

Plenty of people work through it quietly on their own, and that’s completely fine.

Cost: £59

Frequently asked questions

Get in touch
  • How many sessions will I need?

Most people need 4 sessions. It’s rare for one session to make a lasting difference, so the package gives your dog time to practise between visits, with support from me along the way.

  • My dog barks at other dogs, is that training or behaviour?

This is always behavioural, not a training issue. Barking at other dogs usually comes from something like frustration, fear or overexcitement, so it needs the right approach to get to the root of it rather than just training around it.

If this is what’s going on with your dog, take a look at my dog behaviour support page instead.

Walking skills, like pulling on the lead, can be either. That’s something I can help you work out on a call.

  • Do you use aversive methods, like shock collars or choke chains?

No. I train in a kind, compassionate way. It might take a little longer than a quick fix, but you won’t be damaging your relationship with your dog to get there.

  • Can you train my dog for agility, heelwork or obedience competitions?

No, this isn’t something I offer. My focus is on everyday recall and walking, not formal obedience or sport training.

I want dogs to be polite and easy to live with, not perfect. Dogs are part of the family, not something to be obedient at all times, and training should always consider how your dog is actually feeling, not just how they’re behaving.

  • Will this work for an older dog?

Yes. It’s not just about age, dogs of any age can learn recall and loose lead walking with the right approach and enough practice.

  • What happens after I get in touch?

A free 30 min no obligation call to understand your situation and assess if I can help.
